Solo Mission on a hot day: went up to Fragile at 9am, which was waaaay to early for South African habits. Unluckily it was not very windy and I started to panic a little about that. 2 days ago it had about 7 degrees up there, my fingers and me were freezing. This time I climbed in a tanktop… But I was able to top Fragile Steps out on my 3rd or 4th try. I was so happy about my 2nd 8B 🙂 Unfortunately 2 of my splits started bleeding again and got even bigger but who cares? 😀
The temperatures raised up to 27 degrees the next (and last) week – we were not really amused about that. I climbed some easier stuff, and was pretty sad about not to finish „Black Mango Chutney“ (tiny crimps), Barracuda and some other 8A+. Maybe I have to come back next year, although i wanted to spend my summer somewhere else – maybe Australia, New Zealand or RMNP?
Katha showed me on my second last day the perfect beta for the 7C highball “Tomorrow I will be gone”. The main problem was, that the boulder is the whole day in the sun haha The friction was really bad and my skin too. I know, these are only excuses haha If someone is strong enough, conditions don’t matter 😉 I hope to remember the beta until my next Rocklands trip 😛
The same day I made a surprising ascent of “Purple Nipple Clan” 8A in the cave behind the Highball. Figured out the moves the day before with Dan, but could not hold tension. With a new beta the next day, I was able to climb it 🙂
It was hard to leave the Rocklands again 🙁
Fun fact: I wanted to download the map to the airport in the morning, but the wifi at the burger restaurant “dekelder” didn’t work. I thought “ok, there will be for sure signs to the airport”. Well, no. I got so lost around Capetown hahaha In the end I switched on the internet on my mobile phone and downloaded the way to the airport. Used the internet for about 30 seconds, and had to pay 14€ extra! But I finally found the airport 😉
Now it’s time for some serious gym training again to get even fitter for the upcoming Worldcup in Munich and the World Championships in Paris in September. And of course for Silvretta! The perfect spot for bouldering during hot summer days 🙂
